I am so proud to be writing to you on International Women’s Day 2018, exactly twelve months to the moment that we pushed the button to go live with The Modist last March.
Our destination of carefully curated luxury fashion for women who make the choice to dress modestly – be that for a personal reason or simply by preference – has grown into something more than I could have imagined in just a year.
If I may take you back just a little further, The Modist concept was brought about by noticing the women I know; friends, family and further afield, who struggled to feel catered for and listened to by luxury fashion. They needed somewhere welcoming, accepting. Myself included. It soon became clear that a diverse community of women across religions, ethnicities and ages wanted to hear that message too, and the idea of showing the world that ‘modest fashion’ means so much more than archaic stereotypes has positively gained pace. And we’re all about positivity…
Despite that speed, this milestone has meant a time of reflection too. I’m filled with a sense of gratitude for a frankly brilliant team of women, and men, who have worked with heart and dedication to a passion project. They’ve transformed it from the notion that authentic, well styled fashion can also happen to be modest, into an inclusive reality for thousands of women, making them feel part of a conversation that previously, they did not.
Which brings me to the most significant point. My thanks to you for joining us on the journey so far is unequivocal. You are the reason we continue to build a brand pushing boundaries, challenging imposed ‘definitions’, and moving towards unity over our differences, not being afraid of them.
Your uniqueness, your extraordinary taste in fashion (I’ve seen The Modist shopping bags to prove it!) and above all: your self-worth are our motivation. It’s time to celebrate, let’s continue to move this narrative along together.
We are one, and you’re all invited…
