In September 2018, one of Britain’s most iconic fashion houses ushered in a new era with Riccardo Tisci taking the helm as chief creative officer after seventeen years under the vision of Christopher Bailey. The changing of the guard is always going to be a big moment for any brand, but perhaps none more so than the quintessentially British brand, Burberry. And yet, as the lights came up on the Italian designer’s first show for the label, doubts were cast aside as a lust-worthy parade of beige and neutral-hued separates stomped down the catwalk. Lovingly Burberry, but with a little Tisci magic.

“This show is a celebration of the cultures, the traditions and the codes of this historic fashion house and of the eclecticism that makes up the beautifully diverse United Kingdom,” said Tisci of his debut collection for the brand. And it’s this eclecticism coupled with Tisci’s deep understanding of what women want to wear now that made Tisci’s entrance to Burberry as celebrated as the diverse woman he designs for.

“My first season for Burberry was about starting to develop my alphabet for the house, it was about identifying new letters and new codes. And now, I’m starting to put these letters together to begin writing my book here, to form the first chapter for a new era at Burberry.” Welcome to Burberry’s new Kingdom…
