Petar Petrov's Perfect Party

Discover the designer’s idea of an excellent soirée, plus his exclusive capsule collection of fine lamé, lurex and fil coupé pieces just in time for festive season

“The idea behind this capsule was to define a new idea of elegance for party season and the chic modest woman at once. She likes to dress up and celebrate…” Says Petar Petov, the Ukrainian-born, Vienna-based designer behind a plethora of fluid feminine pieces and elegant tailoring. “I love girls that dress up, who love opulent elegance and are not afraid of dressing colourfully! This is particularly true in the Middle East.” Cementing the point, Petar has designed a capsule collection of party-wear exclusively for The Modist, prioritising the opacity of sparkling fabrication, extra lengths and sartorial silhouettes with modest preferences in mind. Here, he tells The MOD about his idea of a perfect night out (and in), plus who would be at the table during his dream dinner party.

Who do you design for?
Women who make the most of life with style and substance and use fashion as a sense of expression. Individual women, strong personalities and creative professionals with a modern approach to luxury and elegance. I don’t like to define her by age.

Describe the most memorable party you’ve ever been to…
I don’t know about one in particular – but I love eccentric parties, and the most memorable are the ones that are most fun, of course! The right friends are the most important thing.

Who would be at your dream dinner party, dead or alive?
I have five: Isabelle Huppert, Grace Jones, Diane Keaton, Amal Clooney and Cate Blanchett.

And for dancing afterwards, what would the soundtrack be?
Miss Broadway by Belle Epoque (1977), Emotional Rescue by The Rolling Stones (1980) and Psycho Killer by Talking Heads (1984).

When it comes to inspiring moments in time, which is the most iconic party ever?
Either The Rothschild Illuminati Ball from the year 1972, or the entire Studio 54 era.

What does ‘modesty’ mean to you?
Modesty is a lifestyle and supports individuality.
